Even in the Old Testament, shepherds are mentioned. God is identified as the Good Shepherd, holding the lambs in His arms. Isaiah 40:11, “He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm ….” In the New Testament, Jesus is identified as the Good Shepherd, and the saints are spoken of as shepherds of the flock by Jesus. It is required of the Shepherds to feed the flock and care for the lambs. Jesus said this to Peter.
